It’s Just Like, It’s Just Like … An Interview!

Sammy Stephens is not just a successful entrepreneur, he’s also a bad-ass rapper and a fierce dancer. We all know that from watching his store’s commercial, which has become a true online-video phenomenon (even landing him on “Ellen”). He’s also a great sport who took some time out of his busy schedule to answer some of my questions in an email for this, the first ever GUBA Blog Q&A. (Since the responses were emailed I’m not editing them at all.)

What do you think about flea markets that are *not* like mini-malls? It’s like, why bother, right? What advantages does a mini-mall have over your garden variety flea market?

I think that all flea markets are great, but” Flea Market Montgomery it’s just like, it’s just like a Mini Mall because we sell living rooms, bedrooms ,dinettes. we distinguish ourselves from any garden variety flea market because we are more than just a flea market everything that we sell here is new. We also sell clothes ,jewelry, food, and leather goods; I could go on and on but you’d have to see it to believe it.

When did the famous ad begin airing? Have you seen increased traffic/sales to your store since running the ad?

The add began five years ago, and the sales are alright but the fan base is GREAT! I’m receiving visitors from all over the nation , and when they walk out the door to leave they turn around and say” It’s just like, it’s just like a Mini Mall Flea Market Montgomery”.

Did your team upload the ad to video websites?

No, they did not upload the video at all, my video was uploaded by my wonderful fans, and I would like to thank them for their continued support

Will there be a sequel?

Yes, the remix will be released in sixty days and T.J. let me tell you it’s going to make the world scream…”give Sammy a Grammy”

What’s been the most memorable/exciting experience to come out of all of this?

That yet to come.. but with these great fans anything is possible.

Finally, you appeared on “Ellen.” She is known for her super-funky fresh dancing in the beginning of each show. Who would win in a dance-off, you or Ellen?

It’s Just Like … A CD!

The Sammy Stephens journey continued today when I received a surprise package from the man himself:

That’s right, Sammy “It’s Just Like a Mini-Mall” Stephens is dancin’ his way to the top of the entertainment industry. First was the
ubiquitous commercial, which he told me in
an interview was created in 2002. And now,
after appearances on VH1 and “Ellen,”
among others, Stephens is releasing a
full-length version of his killer tune.
